I CANNOT WAIT for Kitchen Cabinet with Annabel...
Me either. Once it goes to air the derpification of Australian public discourse will be complete and the ABC will reach a fantastic new low in their coverage of politics - which has been on a steady downward trend since the introduction of ABC News24. It looks terrible and the idea should have been shot down well before it was ever pitched as a potential series. Pathetic.

peachypuke: The fatter wog said to the skinnier wog: ‘Oi bro, you slept with my cousin’. And the other one said: ‘Nah man, I didn’t for shit, eh’ and the other one goes: ‘I will call on my fully sick boys, eh’. And then pulled out a gun and went: Chk-chk boom Great moments in Australian history…

Yeah, so...
Yeah, so I got involved in some shit involving News Ltd technology reporter Claire Connelly this evening. It started when she decided, or was told by an editor, to pursue a story about internet trolling. Naturally, like any lazy modern journalist reporter, she turned to Twitter and asked for trolls to get in touch with her. As you can imagine, such a derpy question from a known numpty media...

2012: The Year of the Derp
I’ve been watching a little discussion between a couple of local Twitter users over the last day or so regarding the pricing of HDMI cables at the major electronic retailers (Bing Lee, Hardly Normal, etc). The discussion started after the friends of one user bought a cable from a retailer at the cost of $180.  This then soon turned into a “OMFG retailers are just fucking evil”...

2012: The Year of the Derp
Don’t forget that also this year, we’re going to see a cooking show featuring our federal politicians and one of the ABC’s senior political correspondants. We’re setting the bar high in Australia this year.

2012: The Year of the Derp
Seriously.  This is getting fucking ridiculous. This year is not even a month old and I don’t think there’s been one day where there hasn’t been some derp-filled idiocy occupying public discourse. We’ve had porn, feminism, christians vs atheists (although that’s been an ongoing one) and people solving disagreements by suing and anonymous online bullies.  Now...

Notes on a scandal
the-metres-gained: rachelhills: It is a rare weekend in the life of this journalist that five opinion pieces are published in major newspapers in response to something I wrote. (Paging you Julia Baird, Crispin Hull, Anne Summers, Miranda Devine and Melinda Tankard Reist. And for good measure, paging you too, Eva Cox, even though your article wasn’t published on the weekend.) Actually, let’s...

The costs of a law and order auction
phetdreams: If you’ve lived in NSW at an election, you’re probably used to the consistent scaremongering of both parties participating in a law and order auction. One will promise legislation that will ‘better tackle yobs’ the other will say they’ve budgeted an increase of hundreds of officers to enforce the law. More often than not these ‘auctions’ are used to make full throated guarantees that...

What We Want From Our Pollies in 2012
auspol: Rather than writing a summary of the year in politics, I thought I would look ahead to 2012. No, I am not going to predict what is going to happen in the world of politics, but rather, summarise what we would all like to see from our politicians. Obviously, there is always a great disparity between what the public want to see and what they do in fact get to see. Nonetheless, here’s...

viewfromkingstreet: …it’s going to be James Squire. Or so the Liquor and Gaming Authority say. It’s nice that little birds bring me these pieces of information… Yeah, that was mentioned in the Herald article on the weekend. I’m a bit disappointed really, Squires is nice and all, but I’d rather some delicious craft beer be done there instead. Not just more of the mass produced...

The Herald didn’t bother explaining how they work, instead writing up something akin to a conspiracy theory about them.  So I responded.

In which I unload on another article in the Newcastle Herald that’s full of fiction and other dodgy journalism. Unsurprisingly, it has to do with the rail line and public transport in the Hunter.

There’s Something Dirty About Tinkler’s Coal... →
I started reading about Tinkler’s proposed coal loader for the former BHP site in Newcastle and stuff started not sounding right. So I did some digging and wrote down what I found, and my thoughts about the whole thing.
